THE ALABAMA ROOM

The Alabama Room, a repository for genealogical research in the
Thomas E. McMillan Museum, moved into the adjacent area in
January 2008. One may see there is still work to be
done to straighten up after the move.

Heritage Books for each of the Alabama counties, Family History books, books on Mississippi and Georgia counties, along with census and cemetery indexes are available for use. Quarterlies from Escambia and other regional county historical and genealogical organizations are readily available, as are newspapers dating from the 1880s, either on microfilm or hard copy. Some documents are very fragile and use is restricted.

The vertical file cabinets are constantly being updated with newspaper clippings, data submitted by members and guests alike. Records are kept to allow researchers to follow up with others who came before them.

We've moved the Alabama Room! It's a mess right now, but we're getting it into shape as fast as we can.
It's next to the museum - when you come into the meeting/gallery room, look for the sign pointing you to the right toward the Alabama Room.
